Etymology and history

The name is derived either from an earlier stone-built house at this location or refers to the Steinhaus monastery near Beyenburg , which owned forests here.

The place is marked on the situation chart of the Fabrickendistricts in the Hochgericht Schwelm from 1788 as Steinhauser Berg , on the map of the municipality Langerfeld from 1825 and on the Prussian first recording from 1843 as Am Steinhauserberg and on the Wuppertal city map from 1930 as Steinhauserberg .

In the 19th century Steinhauserberg belonged to the rural community of Langerfeld in the district of Hagen (until 1887) and the district of Schwelm (from 1887), which formed a separate office and was incorporated into the town of Barmen , today a district of Wuppertal, on August 5, 1922 . There was a school in the village from 1833, which was used until 1913. The school, half of which belonged to Langerfeld and Schwelm, was in the Langerfeld area, while the housing estate opposite the intersection was in the Schwelmer area.

In the municipality lexicon for the province of Westphalia from 1887, a house with five inhabitants is given. The place is called Steinhauserberg school house at the time .

Before the middle of the 20th century, the part of the residential area located in Schwelm urban area fell into desolation, so that today only the old schoolhouse remains.
