Courtship

Court in Solingen

A courtyard is a hamlet-like collection of buildings that consists of a mixture of residential and farm buildings, but unlike the village , it lacks social facilities such as a church, school and shops. Typical for courtiers are the outbuildings to the residential buildings and the gardens directly adjacent.

The term has been guaranteed since 1494 at the latest, but today it is almost only used in the Bergisches Land .

As a rule, court estates do not have their own street names because of their small size . Instead, the name of the court is used as the street name. When court estates have grown over time and have several streets, the same name is often used for all streets.
