September 4th

The race held on September 3 was repeated because Juantorena, who finished third behind Beck and Podlas, complained that he had not heard the starting gun in the noise of the cameras and an airplane. In fact, the Cuban running in lane 8 started moving much later than his competitors, after a 100-meter interval of 12.8 s, covered the last 300 m in 33.1 s and the victory only by 0, 04 s missed.

September 4th

Before the last competition, the GDR was two points ahead of the USA. Everything looked as if the USA could make up for this lead, because at the third change the US team was in first place and the GDR team in fourth place. But then Parks pulled a strain and had to give up.
