Leleith Hodges

Leleith Hodges (born June 22, 1953 in Islington , Saint Mary Parish ) is a former Jamaican sprinter .

She had already participated in two Olympic Games when she received an athletic scholarship from Texas Woman's University (TWU) in 1978 . In 1972 in Munich she retired with the Jamaican team in the run-up to the 4 x 100 meter relay , in 1976 in Montreal she reached the quarter-finals over 100 meters and came in sixth place in the relay.

At the US championships in 1978 she won the title and set a national record in the run-up. For this achievement, she was voted Jamaican Sportswoman of the Year. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, she did not get beyond 100 m over the heat, but was again sixth in the relay.

In 1983 she reached the quarter-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki over 100 m and won bronze with the Jamaican relay.

At the Central American and Caribbean Games she won bronze in the 100 m in 1974 and silver in 1978, at the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships in 1975 bronze, 1977 silver and 1979 and 1981 gold. In 1978 she was named Jamaica's Sportswoman of the Year .

In 1981 Leleith Hodges completed her sports studies at the TWU. She lives in Altadena with her husband and three children.
