Osvaldo Lara

Osvaldo Lara Cañizares (born July 13, 1955 in Cerro , Havana ) is a former Cuban sprinter .

In 1977 he won silver over 200 m and bronze over 100 m at the Central American and Caribbean Athletics Championships . At the Universiade he won bronze in the 100 m, and at the Athletics World Cup in Düsseldorf he was third in the 4 x 100 meter relay with the American team .

A silver medal over 100 m at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1978 was followed by a sixth place over 100 m, a seventh over 200 m and silver in the 4 x 100 m relay at the Pan American Games in 1979 in San Juan. At the Athletics World Cup in Montreal , he won the American 4 x 100 meter relay.

At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow he was fifth over 100 m and eighth over 200 m . In the 4 x 100 meter relay , he was eliminated in the preliminary run.

In 1982 he won silver over 100 m and 200 m at the Central America and Caribbean Games. The following year he reached the semi-finals at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki over 100 m and won bronze over 100 m and silver in the 4 x 100 m relay at the Pan American Games in Caracas .

In 1984 the Cuban Olympic boycott prevented participation in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. In the alternate friendship competitions , he won over 100 m. 1985 followed silver over 100 m at the Central America and Caribbean championships.
