Agnès Tchuinté

Agnès Marie Tchuinté (born January 30, 1959 , † 1990 ) was a Cameroonian javelin thrower . She was three times African champion in this discipline.

Life

Born on January 30, 1959, she celebrated her first victory at school and university games in 1975 when she broke the national women's shot put record with a throw of 14.74 m.

Tchuinté took part in the Athletics World Cup in Düsseldorf in 1977 . In the women's javelin throw she threw a distance of 53.70 m and reached 6th place in this competition. The following year, at the 1978 African Games in Algiers , she threw the spear 49.16 m, which meant winning the silver medal for her. After a throw of 50.20 m, she won the gold medal at the 1979 African Athletics Championships in Dakar . In the same month the Athletics World Cup 1979 took place in Montreal , Tchuinté reached a width of 49.64 m, which meant 8th place.

At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow she took part in the javelin throw (women) , with a width of 55.36 m she was eliminated with the 8th place in group B in the qualification. The Athletics World Cup in Rome in 1981 brought the distance of 52.56 to 9th place. 50.64 m meant the gold medal at the African Athletics Championships in 1982 in Cairo .

The second participation in the Summer Olympics was for Tchuinté 1984 in Los Angeles , in the javelin throw (women) she was eliminated in group A of qualification with the 9th place and a distance of 55.94 m (17th place in the total Qualification). That she was Africa's best javelin thrower at the time, she was able to show again by winning the gold medal at the 1985 African Athletics Championships in Cairo . She had thrown 54.00 m. At the Athletics World Cup 1985 in Canberra , a distance of 57.86 m - her personal best - was only enough for 5th place.

Agnès Tchuinté died in 1990 at the age of 31.
