Kelechi Nwanaga (born December 24, 1994 in Umuahia ) is a Nigerian javelin thrower who started her career in discus throwing .

Athletic career

Kelechi Nwanaga gained her first international experience at the 2015 Junior African Championships in Addis Ababa , where she won the silver medal in the javelin throw with a width of 46.46 m and finished eighth in the discus throw with 29.29 m. Then she won the Africa Games in Brazzaville with 52.70 m. The following year she was fourth at the African Championships in Durban with 53.45 m and did not start at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz at short notice. In 2018 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time and reached sixth place with a throw of 53.17 m. In August she won the African Championships in Asaba with 56.96 m and was eighth in the Continental Cup in Ostrava with 51.97 m. The following year she successfully defended her title at the African Games in Rabat and won the gold medal with 55.88 m.

From 2015 to 2017 and 2019 , Nwanaga was the Nigerian javelin champion.
