Justine Gail Robbeson (born May 15, 1985 in Benoni ) is a former South African javelin thrower and heptathlete and is one of the most successful athletes in her country.

Athletic career

Justine Robbeson gained her first international experience in 2001, when she won the silver medal in the javelin throw at the Youth World Championships in Debrecen with a distance of 51.54 m and took seventh place in the long jump with 5.96 m. In 2003 she took part in the Africa Games in Abuja for the first time , where she won the silver medal in the heptathlon with 5697 points behind the Ghanaian Margaret Simpson . Then she also won the silver medal behind Indian JJ Shobha at the Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad with 5587 points . In the following year she won the Junior World Championships in Grosseto with a new U20 African record of 5868 points in the heptathlon and in 2005 she won the bronze medal in the javelin behind the Czech Barbora Špotáková and at the Summer Universiade in Izmir with a throw of 58.70 m Ma Ning from China.

In 2006 she took part in the African Championships in Bambous for the first time , where she won the gold medal in the javelin throw with 60.60 m and was then third at the World Cup in Athletics in Athens with 61.38 m. The following year she took part again in the Africa Games in Algiers and won the gold medal there with a distance of 58.09 m. On February 16, 2008 Robbeson improved the South African national record and the African record in Potchefstroom to 63.49 m. This record lasted until 2009 when she was replaced by her compatriot Sunette Viljoen . With this distance she qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where she did not reach the final with 59.63 m . After she had only contested one competition in 2009, she won the following year at the African Championships in Nairobi with a throw at 60.24 m, the silver medal behind her compatriot Viljoen and then she secured herself at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi with 60.03 m Bronze medal behind Viljoen and Australian Kimberley Mickle . In 2011 she again took part in the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen , where she won the bronze medal with 59.78 m behind Viljoen and the Russian Marina Maximowa . She also qualified for the World Championships in Daegu , South Korea , where she did not reach the final with 58.08 m. Then she successfully defended her title at the Africa Games in Maputo with 55.33 m. In 2012 she took part in the African Championships in Porto-Novo for the last time , where she won the silver medal behind the Ghanaian Simpson with 52.81 m and then ended her career as a track and field athlete at the age of 27.

In 2007 and 2008 Robbeson was South African champion in the javelin and in 2003 in the heptathlon and in 2005 she won the 100-meter hurdles .
