At first it looked like Pearson would have won the race in 11.28 s. However, the English team protested the score because Pearson had helped cause the false start , for which Turner was immediately disqualified. The jury subsequently disqualified Pearson. An appeal by the Australian team against the decision was unsuccessful. The athletes originally placed behind Pearson all moved up one rank in the ranking. The new winner was Osayomi in 11.32 seconds. During a doping control , however, it tested positive for the prohibited substance methylhexanamine . After confirmation by the B sample five days after the race, Osayomi was stripped of her gold medal and Natasha Mayers declared the winner.
