Sarah Nambawa (born September 23, 1985 in Kampala ) is a Ugandan athlete who has her greatest successes in the triple jump .

Life and Achievements

Sarah Nambawa attended St. Jude Primary School in Karambi and even then won the 100 , 200 and 400 meter runs at the district championships in the Kabarole district . In 1998 at Bright Way High School, she started the long jump. She then attended the private secondary school Masindi Academy on a sports scholarship . At Ndejje University, a private Christian university in Uganda, where she was trained by Patrick Pkanya, she studied administration in a bachelor's degree.

At the Universiade 2005 in Izmir she was eliminated as fifth in the prerun over 200 m. In 2006 she won the 100-meter run at the Ugandan student championships in front of the then national champion Justine Bayigga . At the 2006 African Universiade, Nambawa won gold in both the 400m and the 4-by-400-meter relay .

On the recommendation of the Ugandan middle-distance runner Timothy Makubuy, who is studying at the Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro , she switched to MTSU in December 2006, where she studied Liberal Studies . There she started over 400 m and 800 m before she turned to the triple jump under the guidance of coach Andrew Owusu . On April 21, 2007, she set her first Ugandan record with 12.77 m. The following year she improved this mark to 13.43 m. In 2009 she finished second indoors and third outdoors at the NCAA championships. At the Universiade in Belgrade she was sixth in the triple jump and eleventh in the long jump.

In 2010 she finished second at the NCAA Championships and won gold at the African Athletics Championships in Nairobi with 13.95 m. At the Athletics Continental Cup in Split she was sixth with 13.78 m and fifth at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi with 13.71 m.

In 2011, she retired from the World Athletics Championships in Daegu with 13.22 m in qualification. The following year she won the African Championships in Porto Novo with 13.90 m . At the 2013 World Cup in Moscow , she did not get past the first round with 13.31 m.

Sarah Nambawa is 1.65 m tall and weighs 64 kg.
