Summer Universiade 2005

The Summer Universiade 2005 (also referred to as XXIII. Summer Universiade ) was held in the Turkish city of Izmir instead. The games started on August 7th and ended on August 22nd, 2005.

Canada , Mexico , Turkey and South Korea had applied for the 2005 Universiade . On July 14, 2000, the FISU awarded the 2005 competitions to Izmir as the host at its general assembly in the People's Republic of China .

Attendees

131 countries took part in the tournament. With 7,635 participants, it was the largest Universiade to date - there were almost 1,000 more than in 2001 in Daegu. Germany was represented at the Universiade with a delegation of 163 people, including 47 female and 58 female athletes. The 105 active participants were looked after by 58 supervisors.
