Summer Universiade 2013

The 2013 Summer Universiade , officially XXVII. Summer Universiade was held in the Russian city ​​of Kazan from July 6th to July 17th. 11,800 students from 163 countries competed for precious metals in 27 sports. Russia won the most medals ahead of China and Japan, Germany took 14th place, Austria 38th place and Switzerland 60th place in the medal table.

The Universiade is held in 64 different sports facilities in Kazan and the surrounding area, 30 sports facilities were built especially for the Universiade.

Accommodation

Athletes village

The athletes' village, which was built between 2009 and 2010, housed around 13,000 athletes and supervisors during the event. After the Games ended, the village became a campus of the Kazan State University and the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Torch relay

The torch was lit on July 15, 2012 at the University of Paris-Sorbonne , which was the first university to organize an international university sports competition in 1923. Afterwards, the torch relay led around the world for 359 days and was carried by torchbearers through 51 cities in 2013.

Medals

Competitions in 27 sports will be held at the 2013 Summer Universiade. Five sports (7-a-side rugby, boxing, belt wrestling, sambo and synchronized swimming) have never been played at a Universiade before.
