The Summer Universiade 2011, officially the XXVI. Summer Universiade was held from August 12th to 23rd in the Chinese city ​​of Shenzhen . It was the third Universiade that was held in China . The hosts were able to secure victory in the medal table ahead of Russia and South Korea with 75 gold medals, 39 silver medals and 31 bronze medals.

Applications

A total of five cities applied to host the Summer Universiade 2011. The Canadian city of Edmonton actually wanted to apply for the Universiade, but then withdrew the application. Ultimately, the following cities were in the running for the event:

On January 16, 2011, at the conference leading up to the 2007 Winter Universiade , the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire announced that the Chinese city of Shenzhen would host the Summer Universiade. After the Summer Universiade 2001 ( Beijing ) and the Winter Universiade 2009 ( Harbin ), the third Universiade took place in the People's Republic of China .
