Pentanones
The pentanones are a group of three isomeric saturated ketones with five carbon atoms. They have the general molecular formula C 5 H 10 O and a molar mass of 86.13 g · mol −1 . They differ in their properties, so the melting point of 3-pentanone is significantly higher compared to the other two, as the molecule has a symmetry.
You are u. a. accessible by oxidation of the corresponding secondary pentanols ( 2-pentanol , 3-pentanol and 3-methyl-2-butanol ). The pentanals have the same molar mass.
