GESTIS substance database
The GESTIS database (of " Ge driving st off i nformation s ystem") is a freely accessible database of chemical compounds . It is maintained by the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance .
The GESTIS substance database contains the following information on around 8800 substances :
- Identification via a maximum 6-digit central allocation number (ZVG no.)
- Toxicology / Ecotoxicology
- Physico-chemical data
- Occupational medicine and first aid
- Handling and use
- Regulations
The data are available in German and English. Access can be via the Internet or a mobile app .

The GESTIS International Limit Values database contains a compilation of occupational exposure limits for hazardous substances from 32 countries , including limit values for 2184 substances. It is also available as an app for iPhone, iPodtouch, iPad and Android app.
The GESTIS DNEL list (see DNEL ) makes DNEL values available that relate to the workplace and have been published in this form by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). It contains entries for over 6000 substances.
The GESTIS biological material database contains information on safe activities with biological substances in the workplace and on important properties of the individual biological substances. It contains information on around 15,000 biological substances.
The GESTIS-STAUB-EX database contains important combustion and explosion parameters of over 7000 dust samples from almost all industries. It helps with the safe handling of flammable dusts and the conception of protective measures against dust explosions (see explosion protection ). The database is available in German, English and each in a mobile version.
