Life

Baya Rahouli comes from a sporty family. Her brother Hamimed Rahouli set an African record in the 50 km walk in 1987 and her sister Hamida was successful as an all-rounder and javelin thrower. Baya grew up in the Bal El Oued housing estate and started athletics under the direction of Dalila Tayebi . Due to her success in youth, she received support from the Algerian government and decided to drop out of school. After the Olympic Games in Sydney, she broke up with her coach Ait Amar and was tempted to end her career. But she decided to continue alongside Mohamed Zerrouki , but ended the collaboration after two more unsuccessful years. From 2005 she trained with Hocine Mohamed and achieved her best results with him. Numerous injuries prevented further success at the top of the world from 2007 onwards. In 2009 she gave birth to a child and therefore did not participate in any competitions.
