The women's triple jump at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney was held on September 22nd and 24th, 2000 at Stadium Australia . 27 athletes took part.

The Bulgarian Teresa Marinowa became Olympic champion . She won ahead of the Russian Tatiana Lebedewa and the Ukrainian Olena Howorowa .

Athletes from Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein did not take part.

September 22, 2000, 8:00 p.m.

The qualification was carried out in two groups. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 14.25 m. Since only nine athletes exceeded this distance (highlighted in light blue), the final field was filled with the next best athletes from both groups to twelve jumpers (highlighted in light green). To take part in the finals, a width of 13.98 m had to be achieved.

Twelve athletes had qualified for the final, nine of them beyond the qualification range. another three about their placements. Two Russians competed against one participant each from Algeria, Bulgaria, Greece, Cameroon, Cuba, Romania, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Great Britain.

Among the favorites were the Cuban Vice World Champion Yamilé Aldama, the Greek European Champion and World Cup third Olga Vasdeki, the Russian World Cup fourth Tatjana Lebedewa, the Bulgarian European Championship third Teresa Marinowa and the Czech 1997 World Champion Šárka Kašpárková.

In the first lap Marinowa achieved an excellent distance of 15.20 m and thus took the lead. With 14.96 m the Ukrainian Olena Howorowa followed in second place. Only in the fourth round did Lebedewa get a medal rank. 14.91 m meant third place at that time. In the fifth attempt Lebedewa improved to 15.00 m and displaced Howorowa from second place. Teresa Marinowa did not succeed in another valid jump until the end, her distance from the first attempt was enough for the Olympic victory. Tatiana Lebedewa won the silver medal and Olena Howorowa received bronze. Places four to six went to Cuban Yamilé Aldama, Baya Rahouli from Algeria and Romanian Cristina Nicolau.
