Career

In the high jump, Šárka Kašpárková was third at the European Junior Championships in 1989. At the Olympic Games in 1992 she did not reach the final. At this point her career in the triple jump had already started, but in 1992 it was not yet Olympic for women. In the 1992 indoor season, she missed a bronze medal in the first three-jump European Indoor Championships by just two centimeters compared to Helga Radtke (GER).

Šárka Kašpárková won her first medal only four years later. At the European Indoor Championships in 1996, she was four centimeters behind the winner Iwa Prandschewa (BUL) at 14.50 meters . At the 1996 Olympic Games, she was 14.92 meters, well behind Olympic champion Inessa Krawez (UKR), who jumped 15.33 meters. But Kašparková missed the silver medal against Inna Lassowskaja (RUS) with the same distance only because of the worse second best jump.

At the Indoor World Championships in 1997 Inna Lassowskaja won with 15.01 meters in front of Ashia Hansen (GBR) with 14.70 meters and Šárka Kašpárková with 14.66 meters. The Romanian Rodica Mateescu (ROM) was 14.65 meters behind Šárka Kašpárková. At the outdoor world championships, Šárka Kašpárková set her ninth and tenth Czech national record with 15.01 meters and then with 15.20 meters and reached a distance that had only been exceeded by the world record holder Inessa Krawez, who was absent due to injury. Nevertheless, Šárka Kašpárková only had a four-centimeter lead in winning the world title, as Mateescu also showed the best competition of her career.

At the European Indoor Championships in 1998 Šárka Kašpárková won the silver medal with 14.76 meters, but had 40 centimeters behind Ashia Hansen. The final result at the European Open Air Championships in the same year was much tighter. With her 14.53 meters Šárka Kašpárková was only two centimeters behind the European champion Olga Vasdeki (GRE), but Teresa Marinowa (BUL) with 14.50 meters and Rodica Mateescu with 14.46 meters followed closely.

The World Indoor Championships in 1999 won Ashia Hansen with 15.02 meters ahead of Iwa Prandschewa with 14.94 meters. Šárka Kašpárková won bronze with 14.87 meters. This was the last medal for the Czech, who finished sixth at the 1999 Open Air World Championships and did not make the final at the 2000 Olympic Games after successfully qualifying.
