The 7th World Indoor Athletics Championships took place from March 5th to 7th, 1999 in the Japanese city ​​of Maebashi . The competitions were held in the Green Dome .

There were two new world records:

  • The US men's 4 x 400 meter relay took 3: 02.83 minutes.
