Jurij Bilonoh

Jurij Hryhorowytsch Bilonoh ( Ukrainian Юрій Григорович Білоног , English transcription Yuriy Bilonoh ; born April 9, 1974 in Bilopillja near Sumy ) is a former Ukrainian shot putter . He was European Champion in 2002. His Olympic victory in 2004 was revoked because of doping .

Career

In 1992 Jurij Bilonoh was Junior World Champion in the shot put. With a fifth place at the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona in 1995 , Bilonoh made his debut in the adult class. In the same year he won the Universiade . At the World Indoor Championships in Paris in 1997 , he won the title with 21.02 m in front of his compatriot Oleksandr Bahatsch (20.94 m) and John Godina (USA). Outdoors, Bilonoh took fourth place at the World Championships in Athens with 20.26 m . With 20.92 m he won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Budapest in 1998 behind Bahatsch and Oliver-Sven Buder (GER).

He also won bronze at the 1999 World Indoor Championships in Maebashi with 20.89 m behind Bahatsch and Godina. In the same year, Bilonoh 20.60 m reached only fifth place at the World Championships in Seville . The same place reached Bilonoh at the Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney with 20.84 m. After an eighth place at the World Indoor Championships 2001 in Lisbon and a sixth place at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton , Bilonoh won another important title at the 2002 European Championships in Munich with 21.37 m. The following year he won the bronze medal both at the 2003 World Indoor Championships in Birmingham and at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis . Inside he was 21.13 m behind Manuel Martínez (ESP) and Godina, outside he hit 21.10 m and was behind Andrej Michnewitsch (BLR) and Adam Nelson (USA).

2004 started rather cautiously for Bilonoh with eighth place at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , the shot put competition was held at an ancient site in Olympia . Bilonoh and Adam Nelson each hit 21.16 m, but since the doped Bilonoh still got two hits of 21.15 m, he was first Olympic champion. At the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki he was fourth with 20.89 m, sixth at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg with 20.32 m and sixth with 20.63 m at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .

With a height of 2.00 m, his competition weight was 135 kg.

After the IOC 2012 doping tests had most of Athens again with improved methods, one was at Bilonoh oxandrolone - metabolite detected. Thereupon he was banned retrospectively for the period August 18, 2004 to August 17, 2006 and all results including the Olympic victory were deleted.
