Michał Haratyk (born April 10, 1992 in Cieszyn ) is a Polish athlete who specializes in the shot put. In 2018 he won the gold medal at the European Championships in Berlin .
Athletic career
Since 2011 Haratyk has been taking part in competitions in the adult sector. At that time, in addition to the shot put, he also took part in discus throwing competitions. In the following years he steadily increased his best performances. In 2016 he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Portland , to which he came as one of the world's best in the current indoor season, but ended up 14th overall with a width of 19.48 m. The following summer turned out to be successful for him when he won the silver medal at the European Championships in Amsterdam behind the German David Storl with a width of 21.19 m. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro he failed a good month later in the qualification.
In 2017 he took part in the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade , but failed in the qualification there. At the World Championships in London in the summer , he qualified for the finals, where he finished fifth with a width of 21.41 m.
2018 was his most successful sporting year so far. First, he finished tenth at the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham . At the international Ostrava Golden Spike meeting in June, he improved his personal best to 22.08 m. At the following season highlight, the European Championships in Berlin , he finally won the gold medal with a width of 21.72 m in front of his compatriot Konrad Bukowiecki and defending champion David Storl . Haratyk also won gold at the 2019 European Indoor Championships . In July he hit the ball to 22.32 m during a competition in Warsaw, setting a new national record. At the World Championships in Doha, he was eliminated in qualification.
