Werner Günthör (born June 1, 1961 in Uttwil ) is a former Swiss athlete .

Life

Günthör was the best shot putter in his country in the history of athletics. With a best distance of 22.75 m, achieved on August 23, 1988 in Bern, he is eighth in the all-time best list worldwide (as of April 2020). The 2.00 m tall model athlete also tried his hand at bobsledding in Ekkehard Fasser's team . The trained plumber later completed a sports degree and now works 50% of the time at the Federal Office for Sports BASPO in Magglingen. In the remaining time he is involved in projects as a self-employed person, holds seminars or advises top athletes on training or career planning. He is married and lives in Erlach .

According to his doctor Bernhard Segesser, Günthör was treated with Stromba ( stanozolol ) for rehabilitation after an injury , which is listed as a prohibited substance on the doping list. The Swiss Doping Investigation Commission (DUK) determined in 1993, however, that between 1984 and 1988 anabolic steroids were treated three to four times over a period of several weeks , and that the “therapeutic” administration also violated the national and international doping regulations applicable at the time.
