The 21st European Indoor Athletics Championships took place from March 3-4, 1990 at the Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena in Glasgow .

For the first time, the triple jump was also held for women. The GDR and the Soviet Union competed for the last time at the European Indoor Athletics Championships. In addition, after this event, the cycle was extended from one year to two years.

The most successful athletes with two gold medals each were the German sprinter Ulrike Sarvari and the Soviet long and triple jumper Galina Tschistjakowa . The national ranking was dominated by the Soviet Union with 16 medals, nine of which were gold.
