Florian Schwarthoff (born May 7, 1968 in Dortmund ) is a former German hurdler who won an Olympic bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdles in 1996. From 1987 to 1997 he dominated the German hurdles sprint before Falk Balzer challenged him for this position. He was German champion a total of twelve times.

His greatest success was next to winning the silver medal at the European Championships in Helsinki in 1994 , the third place at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. In 1995 it seemed as if Florian Schwarthoff, after setting the German record in an internationally remarkable 13.05s, could win international championships. With a medal chance to the World Championships in Gothenburg in 1995 , he fell in the semi-finals and was eliminated. For winning the bronze medal at the Olympic Games, he received the silver laurel leaf.

In 2003 Schwarthoff ended his active career after finishing fourth at the 2002 European Championships in Munich. He started the last two years for OSC Berlin , before that for LAC Quelle and TV Heppenheim .

With a height of 2.01 m, he had a competition weight of 77 kg.

In 1998 Florian Schwarthoff received the Rudolf Harbig Memorial Prize .

Schwarthoff graduated from the Erlangen Gymnasium Fridericianum, studied architecture at the TU Darmstadt and is the managing director of a real estate company headquartered in Nuremberg.
