István Bagyula

István Bagyula [ ˈiʃtvaːn ˈbɒɟulɒ ] (born January 2, 1969 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian pole vaulter . With a height of 1.85 m, his competition weight was 76 kg.

István Bagyula set a junior world record in 1988 with a height of 5.65 m. He was junior world champion in 1988 and at the 1988 Olympic Games he finished seventh with 5.60 m.

In July 1991, he crossed 5.92 m in Linz, setting his seventh Hungarian national record. This performance should remain his best. At the 1991 World Championships he jumped 5.90 m and won silver behind the Ukrainian Serhiy Bubka , who jumped 5.95 m in the last attempt.

In 1992 Bagyula was second with 5.80 m at the European Indoor Championships behind the Russian Pyotr Botschkarev, who was competing for the Commonwealth of Independent States . At the 1992 Olympic Games , Bagyula jumped 5.55 meters in qualification and qualified for the final. There he was ninth with 5.30 m. At the World Championships in 1993 he was tenth with 5.70 m.
