Sandra Myers (born January 9, 1961 in Little River ) is a former Spanish athlete who specialized in the 400-meter run .
She was born in the United States and became the US champion in the 400-meter hurdles in 1981 . In 1987 she changed her citizenship and has since competed in international championships for Spain. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, she competed in the 100-meter run , but failed in the preliminary round. Myers won a total of 19 Spanish championships outdoors and indoors on various sprint courses from 60 m to 400 m as well as in the long jump .
Internationally, she first drew attention to herself at the European Athletics Championships in Split in 1990 , when she came fourth in the 200-meter run and finished sixth in the 4-by-100-meter relay . Her final breakthrough came with winning the silver medal in the 400-meter run at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Seville in 1991 . Almost six months later, she celebrated the most important success of her career at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo . Over 400 m she won the bronze medal in 49.78 s behind Marie-José Perec (49.13 s) and Grit Breuer (49.42 s).
In 1992, Myers won the title in the 400-meter run at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Genoa . Over the same distance she was fourth at the indoor world championships in Toronto and sixth outdoors at the world championships in Stuttgart the following year .
After that, Myers did not quite succeed in building on her old achievements. At the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 1995 in Barcelona, at the World Athletics Championships in 1995 in Gothenburg and at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 , she reached the semi-finals but could not qualify for the finals. Her last international success was winning the title in the 200-meter run at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Stockholm in 1996 . After the Olympic Games in 1996, she ended her career.
Sandra Myers is 1.70 m tall and had a competition weight of 60 kg. After the end of her sporting career, she became involved in politics as a member of the Partido Popular .
