Natalija Serhijiwna Pyhyda ( Ukrainian Наталія Сергіївна Пигида , English transcription Nataliya Pyhyda; born January 30, 1981 in Nowa Kachowka , then Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter sprint and especially with the Ukrainian sprint is successful.

Athletic career

Natalija Pyhyda played her first international competition in 1998 in Moscow at the World Youth Games. There she won the silver medal over 200 meters and victory over 400 meters. At the Junior World Championships in Chile in 2000, she was sixth both in the individual over 400 meters and in the Ukrainian relay. In 2003 she took part in the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland . Over 100 meters she finished sixth in the finals, won the gold medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay and came fourth in the long sprint relay. In 2005 she was fifth over 400 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Madrid and just barely missed a medal with fourth place in the relay. In addition, she won the bronze medal at the World Student Games in Izmir with the relay and finished fifth at the World Championships in Helsinki . In 2006 she was sixth with the Ukrainian relay at the European Championships in Gothenburg . In 2007 the Ukrainians won the Universiade in Bangkok . At the World Championships in Osaka , however, the team was eliminated in the preliminary round. At the World Indoor Championships in 2008 she made it to the semifinals. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008, she reached the semifinals over 200 meters, retired with the long sprint relay in the preliminary round and was disqualified with the 4 x 400 meter relay in the preliminary round. In 2009, with a personal best, she won the silver medal at the European Indoor Championships behind Russian Antonina Kriwoschapka . In July 2009 she was tested in Reims for the banned anabolic steroid stanozolol and then banned until 2011.

In time for the World Championships in Daegu , South Korea , Pyhyda was allowed to start again. However, the Ukrainian relay was disqualified, as was the case at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul 2012. At the European Championships in Helsinki , the Ukrainians won the gold medal with a European time of the year. They also won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in London . In 2013, she came fourth at the World Championships in Moscow with the Ukrainian 4 x 400 meter relay and in 2014 she won the silver medal at the European Championships in Zurich . In 2015 she celebrated her greatest success by winning the gold medal over 400 meters at the European Indoor Championships in Prague . In addition, she finished fifth with the season in the finals. At the World Championships in Beijing, Ukraine came in sixth and in the individual competition she was eliminated in the semi-finals despite a new best performance . With the 4 x 100 meter relay, she was eliminated in the run-up . At the Military World Games in October, she won two more medals.
