Nowa Kachowka ( Ukrainian Нова Каховка ; Russian Новая Каховка Nowaja Kachowka ) is a town or urban district with 46,000 inhabitants (2017) on the left bank of the Dnepr in the southern Ukrainian Oblast of Kherson .

The city is located on the European route E 58 between Kherson in the west and Melitopol in the east and on the railway line Mykolaiv - Snihuriwka - Nova Kachowka - Wolnowacha . The city has a river port in the southwest of the Kakhovka reservoir at the beginning of the North Crimean Canal .

history
The city of Nowa Kachowka was founded on February 28, 1952, with the village of Kljutschowe (Russian Ключевое / Kljutschewoje) having existed there since 1891. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the dam of the Kachowka Dnepr reservoir built in 1947/48 . From an economic point of view, mechanical engineering (electrical engineering) and energy production are particularly important. In 1961, construction work began to build the North Crimean Canal , through which the southwest of Kherson Oblast and the entire northern part of Crimea are supplied with water.
