Hornostajiwka ( Ukrainian Горностаївка ; Russian Горностаевка Gornostajewka ) is an urban-type settlement in the center of the Ukrainian Oblast of Kherson with 6,600 inhabitants (2016). The settlement is the administrative seat of the Rajons of the same name .

geography

Hornostajiwka is located on the left bank of the Dnepr dammed to the Kachowka reservoir , 128 km northeast of the oblast capital Kherson and 54 km northeast of Nowa Kachowka . The village of Selenyj Pod ( Зелений Под ) with about 230 inhabitants also belongs to the settlement council .

history

Hornostayivka was founded at the end of the 18th century by settlers from the Poltava and Chernihiv regions . The village was occupied by Wehrmacht troops from September 11, 1941 to November 2, 1943 . Hornostayivka has had urban-type settlement status since 1956.

Hornostajiwka is the administrative center of the raion of the same name, founded in 1965. Hornostayivka Raion is located in the center of Kherson Oblast. It has 20,100 inhabitants and an area of ​​1018 km². The population density is 20 people per km².
