Novoworonzowka ( Ukrainian and Russian Нововоронцовка ) is an urban-type settlement with 6300 inhabitants (2016) in the north of the Ukrainian Oblast of Kherson and is the administrative center of Novoworonzowka Raion .

geography

The village is located on the right bank of the kakhovka reservoir dammed Dnepr 80 km southeast of Kryvyi Rih and 160 km northeast of the Oblasthauptstadt Kherson . The nearest big city is Nikopol 50 km east of the place. In the north, Nowoworonzowka borders the village of Marjanske, part of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast .

history

The place was founded in 1795 under the name Nykolajewka (Ukrainian Николаевка ) and as early as 1798 there were 524 inhabitants in the village, including 317 men and 207 women. In 1821 the village came into the possession of Prince Mikhail Semjonowitsch Voronzow , which was the starting point for the further development of the village. In 1829 the village got its current name and in 1886 the place had 1,494 inhabitants. At the end of the 1940s, part of the village had to be relocated due to the construction of the Kachowka reservoir, which overflowed it. Nowoworonzowka was granted urban-type settlement status in 1956.

Rajon

Nowoworonzowka is the administrative seat of the raion of the same name. The Novoworonzowka Rajon (Ukrainian Нововоронцовський район ) in the north of the Kherson Oblast on the border with the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast has 24,595 inhabitants and an area of ​​1,005 km². The population density is 24 inhabitants per km².
