Beryslav ( Ukrainian Берислав ; Russian Берислав Berislav ) is a city in the southern Ukrainian Oblast of Kherson on the right bank of the Dnieper River , 75 km from the Oblast center of Kherson . It is the administrative center of the Rajons of the same name and has 12,800 inhabitants (2016).
history
The place goes back to a fortified customs settlement, which was built in the same place at the beginning of the 15th century . This was named after the Grand Duke Witold (Russian name Витовтова Мытница Witowtowa Mytniza ). In 1475 the place was occupied by the Turks , who renamed it Kizi-Kermen and built a fortress there. In 1695 the place was conquered by Russia , in 1784 the settlement was given its current name and in 1938 was raised to the status of a city.
