Welyka Oleksandriwka ( Ukrainian Велика Олександрівка ; Russian Великая Александровка Velikaya Aleksandrovka - older Большая Александровка / Bolshaya Aleksandrovka , German in World War II Alexander City ) is a settlement of urban type in the Kherson Oblast in the Ukraine . It is located on the left bank of the Inhulez , 139 km northeast of the Oblast capital Kherson .
The village was founded in 1784 and was called Nowooleksandriwka ( Новоолександрівка ) until 1804 . It has had urban-type settlement status since 1956 . The village of Tverdomedowe ( Твердомедове ), which lies north of the settlement, is part of the settlement council.
Between 1941 and 1943 Welyka Oleksandriwka was under the German name Alexanderstadt (previously Bolschaja Alexandrowka ) seat of a district administration in the Reichskommissariat Ukraine .
