Inhulez (river)
The Inhulez ( Ukrainian Інгулець - about "Little Inhul"; Russian Ингулец (Ingulez)) is a right tributary of the Dnepr with a length of 549 km and a catchment area of 13,700 km² (according to other sources 14,870 km²). It rises in the east of the Dnieper highlands near the place Jelisawethradka in the Ukrainian Oblast Kirovohrad . Its source is only about 30 km from the Dnepr, to which it flows parallel in the upper reaches. Then the Inhulez turns south, flowing through the oblasts of Dnipropretovsk , Kherson and Mykolaiv , before flowing into the Dnieper about 20 km northeast of the city of Kherson at Sadowe ( Садове ), Biloserka district . The Inhulez is navigable over a length of 109 km. In its upper reaches the river is dammed up into several reservoirs: Between Petrowe and the village of Iskriwka lies the 11.2 km² large Iskriwka reservoir and above the town of Krywyj Rih the river to the 26 km² large Karachunivka reservoir is dammed.
Below the city the river has formed wide flood plains , which are flooded by numerous strongly meandering river arms, whereby many islands have been created. They have rich vegetation , which is adversely affected by the pollution of the river resulting from the mining in the middle reaches. At the mouth of the river at Sadowe, the average annual discharge is 0.3 km³ / s. Important tributaries are the Saksahan and the Wyssun . Larger towns on the Inhulez are Oleksandrija , Krywyj Rih, Inhulez and Snihuriwka .
