The Kirovohrad Oblast ( Ukrainian Кіровоградська область Kirowohradska oblast ; Russian Кировоградская область Kirovogradskaja oblast ) is one of 25 administrative units in Ukraine . It is located in the center of Ukraine. It has around 0.99 million inhabitants (2014). The geographical center of the country, the Dobrovelychkivka settlement, is located in the oblast . The region is strongly characterized by agriculture.

The Kirovohrad Oblast occupies a central position within the country and is located in the steppe zone . It is a predominantly flat part of Ukraine, the only elevation being the Dnieper highlands in the west of the region. The Kirovohrad Oblast is an average of 205 meters above sea level. The highest point is at a height of 269 meters, the deepest at a height of 196 meters. Some smaller rivers flow through the region: Synyukha (with a total length through the oblast of 67 kilometers), Chornyj Tashlyk (120 km), Jatran (23 km), Inhul (116 km), Berezivka (51 km), Synyzja (36 km ), Inhulez (124 km), Welyka Wys (119 km), Tjasmyn (19 km).

10 km south of the town of Dolynska is the approximately 80 ± 20 million year old impact crater of Selenyj Haj .

In the north the oblast borders on the Cherkassy Oblast , in the northeast on the Dnepr and the Poltava Oblast , in the east on the Dnepropetrovsk Oblast , in the south on the Mykolaiv Oblast and in the west in short sections on the Odessa Oblast and the Vinnytsia Oblast .
