Nowa Praha ( Ukrainian Нова Прага ; Russian Новая Прага Nowaja Praga , in German "New Prague") is an urban-type settlement in the Kirovohrad Oblast in central Ukraine with 6,800 (2016) inhabitants.
Geographical location
Nowa Praha is located in the south of the Oleksandrija district on the bank of the Beschka , a tributary of the Inhulez . Kropywnyzkyj , the capital of the oblast, is 52 km to the west and the district center of Oleksandrija is 20 km to the northeast of the village.
history
The settlement was founded in 1728 as Petrykivka by Cossacks .
From 1754 to 1759 and from 1761 to 1764 the place belonged to the territory of the Novoslobidskyj Cossack Regiment, an administrative-territorial and military unit in Ukraine.
In 1822 the settlement was renamed Nowa Praha and since 1957 it has had urban-type settlement status.
