Novhorodka ( Ukrainian Новгородка ; Russian Новгородка Novgorodka ) is an urban-type settlement in the north of the Ukrainian Kirovohrad Oblast with 5800 inhabitants (2016) and the administrative seat of the raion of the same name.
geography
The settlement lies on the banks of the Kamjanka (Ukrainian Кам'янка ), a tributary of the Inhul . The N 23 road runs through the village , via which the oblast capital Kropywnyzkyj can be reached after 37 km in a north-west direction and which leads south-east to Krywyj Rih . The nearest train station is 13 km away in the village of Kuziwka (Ukrainian Куцівка ).
In addition to Novhorodka, the settlement community also includes the village of Velyka Chechelyivka (Ukrainian Велика Чечеліївка ) with 630 residents and the settlement of Vorontivka (Ukrainian Воронцівка ) with 30 residents.
history
The settlement was founded in 1770 as a hamlet named Kuziwka (Ukrainian Куцівка ). In 1822 the village was given its current name after the Novhorod regiment stationed here. On August 7, 1941, the village was occupied by the Wehrmacht and liberated by the Red Army on March 10, 1944 . In 1965 Nowhorodka received urban-type settlement status.

Personalities
In 1935 in Novhorodka, the chemist and university rector of the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev, Viktor Skopenko, was born .
Rajon
Nowhorodka is the administrative center of the raion of the same name.
Nowhorodka Rajon was founded in 1923, dissolved in 1962 and re-created in 1965. It has about 16,000 inhabitants and an area of 997 km² and the population density is 16 people per km².
