Oleksandrija ( Ukrainian Олександрія ; Russian Александрия Alexandrija ) is a city in Kirovohrad Oblast in central Ukraine and the administrative seat of Oleksandrija Raion with 82,000 (2015) inhabitants.
Geography and climate
Geographical location
Oleksandrija is an important traffic junction in the Kirovohrad Oblast in the historical region of the " Wild Field " on the bank of the Inhulez , a tributary of the Dnieper , and the Berezivka , which flows into the Inhulets here.
The city is located on the M 04 trunk road on a section of the E 50 and on the M 22 trunk road that leads to Poltava . In addition, the city has a station on the railway line from Kiev to Dnipro . It is 75 km to Kropyvnytskyi , the capital of the oblast, 61 km to Shovti Vody , 64 km to Svitlovodsk and 323 km to Kiev.

climate
The climate is temperate continental. The summers are long and hot, the winters short. The precipitation is unevenly distributed over the year. In summer 336 mm of precipitation falls, in winter only 177 mm.
history
The city was founded in 1746 as a settlement of Ussivka by Cossacks . In 1755 Serbs began to settle in Ussivka and since 1784 the place has been called Oleksandrija. From 1805 to 1920 the city was the administrative center of the Ujesd Alexandrija in the Kherson Governorate .
The development of handicrafts and trade and the emergence of the railroad in 1869 helped Alexandria grow into a small town.
In 1919 Oleksandrija was the center of the uprising against Soviet rule in Ukraine under Ataman Nikifor Grigoryev .
The city was occupied by troops of the German Wehrmacht from August 6, 1941 to December 6, 1943 and was named Alexandria. During this time, the city was the capital of the Alexandria-Ingulez district within the Reichskommissariat Ukraine .

In football, the city is represented by the club FK Oleksandrija , who, after playing in the top division of Ukrainian football, the Ukrainian Premjer-Liha , in the season 2011/2012 , will be back in the second highest league in the season 2012/2013, the Perscha Liha plays.
