Mala Wyska ( Ukrainian Мала Виска ; Russian Малая Виска Malaja Wiska ) is a city in the center of Ukraine with about 10,400 inhabitants (2019) and the administrative center of the raion of the same name .

geography

The city is located on the banks of the Mala Wys ( Мала Вись ), a 40 km long tributary of the Velyka Wys in the Kirovohrad Oblast 61 km west of the Kropywnyzkyj oblast center and 17 km south of the city of Novomyrhorod . In addition to Mala Wyska, the town council also includes the village of Krasnopilka ( Краснопілка ) and the settlements of Komsomolske ( Комсомольське ) and Ulyanivka ( Улянівка ).

history

Mala Wyska was founded in 1752 by immigrants from the Principality of Moldova . Among the immigrants were not only Moldovans, but also Serbs, Montenegrins and Bulgarians. In 1915 the place got a railway connection and a train station. The village was occupied by Wehrmacht troops from August 1, 1941 to March 13, 1944 . In 1957 Mala Wyska received city status.

Mala Wyska is the administrative seat of the Rajons of the same name, founded in 1923. The Rajon Mala Wyska (Ukrainian Маловисківський район ) has about 45,000 inhabitants and an area of ​​1248 km². The population density is 36 inhabitants per km².
