history

The place emerged from 1869 as a station settlement in the course of the construction of the railway connection from Odessa to Kharkiv and was named after a settlement 3 kilometers to the west called "Snamjanka" (today's Snamjanka Druha ). In 1873 the train service started, as a result of which the place developed quickly. In the course of the First World War and the Russian Civil War , the railway systems were badly damaged, but quickly rebuilt under Soviet rule. In 1930 Znamyanka received urban-type settlement status, and in 1938 urban status.

From August 5, 1941 to December 9, 1943, the place was occupied by Germany during the Second World War and played a central role in rail traffic to the front. In 1962, the Znamyanka – Pjatychatky railway was electrified.
