Petrowe ( Ukrainian Петрове ; Russian Петрово Petrowo ) is an urban-type settlement in the east of Kirovohrad Oblast in central Ukraine with 8,200 inhabitants (April 1, 2013) and is the administrative center and largest town of the raion of the same name .

Geographical location
Petrowe is located in the steppe area of the so-called " Wild Field " on the bank of the Inhulez , a tributary of the Dnepr, which is dammed up to the Iskriwka reservoir .
The nearest towns are Schowti Vody , 21 km east, Oleksandrija , 45 km north and Kryvyi Rih , 76 km southeast of the village. The main town of the oblast, Kropywnyzkyj is 95 km west of Petrov.
Community structure
The settlement council municipality with a total of 8,335 inhabitants also includes the villages Novomanujliwka ( Новомануйлівка ) ⊙ with 60 inhabitants, Oleksandrodar ( Олександродар ) ⊙ with 7 inhabitants and Pokrovka ( Покровка ) ⊙ with 67 inhabitants.
history
The village was founded as a Cossack village either in the late 17th century or in the early 1760s . The place was occupied by the German Wehrmacht from August 8, 1941 to October 21, 1943 . Petrowe has had urban-type settlement status since 1963 .
