The Iskriwka reservoir is located in the east of the Kirovohrad Oblast , Petrowe district , between the towns of Petrowe and the dam, built in 1958, north of the village of Iskriwka , which also gave the reservoir its name.

Immediately to the south of the dam, the Shovta flows into the Inhulez, which is dammed further downstream to the Karachunivka reservoir . Apart from the urban-type Petrowe settlement at the northern end of the reservoir, there are no larger towns.
