Svitlovodsk ( Ukrainian Світловодськ - until 1962 Khrushchev / Хрущов to 1969 - Kremhes / Кремгес ; Russian Светловодск Svetlovodsk is a city on) kremenchuk reservoir in eastern Oblast Kirovohrad in Ukraine . Switlovodsk has 45,000 inhabitants (2016) and is the administrative center of the raion of the same name , but not part of it itself.

The urban district of Switlowodsk includes the city itself and the urban-type settlement Vlasiwka ( Власівка ). In Switlovodsk there is a dam with a hydropower plant that dams the Dnieper to the Kremenchuk reservoir. In addition, the 55 km long Zybulnyk flows into the Dnieper here. There is a train station in the village. Local public transport is handled by buses. The oblast capital Kropywnyzkyj is 108 km southwest of Svitlovodsk.

history

In the late 1950s, the workers' quarters for the workers involved in building the dam were in the village. After the dam was completed, Switlovodsk experienced rapid population growth as businesses were relocated due to the existing locally produced energy.
