history

Balachiwka was founded in 1957. Due to the lignite deposits found at the site, the Council of Ministers decided on May 9, 1955 that the lignite should be mined in open-cast mining and that the village of Balachiwka should be established as a workers' settlement. Most of the new villagers were former residents of the neighboring villages and displaced persons from various regions of the former Soviet Union . Since 1968 the village has had urban-type settlement status .
