Novyj Starodub ( Ukrainian Новий Стародуб ; Russian Новый Стародуб Nowy Starodub ) is a large village in the east of Kirovohrad Oblast in central Ukraine with about 3,000 inhabitants (April 1, 2013).

Geographical location
The village is located in the historical region of the so-called " Wild Field " in the north of the Petrowe Rajon at the confluence of the Beschka in the Inhulez , a tributary of the Dnieper . The nearest towns are Oleksandrija 17 km north and Schowti Wody 41 km southeast. Petroveh , the district center, is 22 km south and the main town of the oblast, Kropywnyzkyj, is 95 km west of the village. The urban-type settlement of Balachivka borders the municipality in the south.

history
In the years 1754 to 1759 and from 1761 to 1764 the place with the then name Ownjanka (Ukrainian Овнянка ) belonged to the area of the Novoslobidskyj Cossack Regiment, an administrative-territorial and military unit in Ukraine.
In 1860 the village was given its current name. While the village still had 4,961 inhabitants at the 2001 census, the population fell by around 40% to only 3,002 inhabitants by April 2013.
