The spruce sawfly ( Pristiphora abietina ) belongs to the family of sawfly (Tenthredinidae).

It is widespread in Central and Northern Europe and in the east as far as Ukraine and Belarus. The larvae of the small spruce sawfly develop monophag on the needles of the Norway spruce ( Picea abies ).

The larvae hatch shortly after the spruce buds have sprouted . At the beginning of June the larvae spin off the tree and form a cocoon in the upper areas of the humus soil, where they can "lie over" for up to several years.
