Ihor Anatolijowytsch Shevchenko ( Ukrainian Ігор Анатолійович Шевченко ; born January 10, 1971 in Oleksandrija , Kirovohrad Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian lawyer and politician. He was Ukraine's Environment Minister from December 2014 to July 2015 .

Life

Ihor Shevchenko was born in 1971 to two railway engineers in the city of Oleksandrija. The year he was born, his family moved to Kiev, where he attended school. In 1991, he decided to become a historian and began studying at the History Faculty of Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev , but moved to the law faculty of the same university a year later. He graduated from the Institute for International Relations at Taras Shevchenko University in 1996 and received an international bar exam. Before graduating, he also studied temporarily at universities in Italy and the United States . After graduating, he worked as a lawyer and founded his own law firm. From 2001 to 2006 he was advisor on foreign investments to the mayor of Kiev and in 2005, in the same capacity, advisor to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko . In 2008 he was also a member of the Advisory Council of a parliamentary committee of the Verkhovna Rada .

On December 2, 2014, he became Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine in the Second Cabinet of Arseniy Yatsenjuk , succeeding Andrij Mochnyk . He held this office until his dismissal by the Verkhovna Rada on July 2, 2015. Shevchenko registered as a presidential candidate for the 2019 presidential election in Ukraine on December 31, 2018 .
