The Khmelnitsky Oblast ( Ukrainian Хмельницька область Khmelnyzka oblast ; Russian Хмельницкая область Khmelnitskaja oblast ) is an administrative unit of Ukraine in the west or southwest of the country, without any border with foreign countries. It has around 1.307 million inhabitants (2014).
In the west the oblast borders on the Ternopil Oblast , in the north on the Rivne Oblast and in the east on the Oblast Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia and in the south on the Chernivtsi Oblast .
In the Oblast springing Southern Bug . The Dniester forms the entire southern border with Chernivtsi Oblast . To the north of the district capital, the Slutsch River roams the oblast from west to east. The highest mountain in the oblast is the 409 m high Welyka Buhajicha in the west of the oblast.
The oblast extends from west to east 120 km, from north to south 220 km. Important train routes and highways run through the oblast. In terms of population size, the oblast ranks twelfth.

history
The oblast was created on September 22, 1937 from 33 in the western part of the previously existing Vinnytsia Oblast, and was initially called Kamyanets-Podilskyj Oblast , since the administrative center was in the city of the same name in the south of the oblast, only on March 15 In 1941 it was moved to Proskuriv , from 1954 to Chmelnyzkyj , but the old name remained until 1954.

These are the cities of Kamyanets-Podilskyj , Netischyn , Slavuta , Starokostjantyniw , Shepetivka and the eponymous administrative center of the oblast, the city of Khmelnytskyi .
