Stara Uschyzja ( Ukrainian Стара Ушиця ; Russian Старая Ушица Staraja Uschiza , Polish Uszyca Stara ) is an urban-type settlement in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast Khmelnyzkyj with about 2100 inhabitants (2019).

Stara Ushytsia located in the southeast of the Kamenets District-Podilskyi at the mouth of the 122 km long Uschyzja ( Ушиця ) in the Dniester reservoir 46 km east of Kamianets-Podilskyi .

history

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1144. Between 1826 and 1923 Uschyzja had the status of a city. In 1892 it had 4,448 inhabitants. In 1923 the town was stripped of its town status and downgraded to a village until it was given urban-type settlement status in 1979. Since 2017 the village has been the administrative center of a rural community.
