Bilohirja ( Ukrainian Білогір'я ; Russian Белогорье Belogorje , Polish Lachowce ) is an urban-type settlement in the northwest of the Ukrainian Khmelnitsky Oblast and the administrative center of the raion of the same name with about 5200 inhabitants (2019).
history
The village was first mentioned in writing in 1493 and received city rights in 1583. Until 1945 the place was called Lyachowzy (Russian Ляховцы , Ukrainian Ляхівці Lyachiwzi ). From July 5, 1941 to March 5, 1944, the village was occupied by Wehrmacht troops. From 1946 to 1960 it was a settlement ( селище ) and since 1960 Bilohirja has had urban-type settlement status.
geography
Bilohirja is located on the left bank of the Horyn , a right tributary of the Pripyat about 125 km northwest of the Oblast capital Khmelnytskyi . The village's train station is on the Shepetivka - Ternopil railway line .

The district of Bilohirja , the administrative seat of which is the village, is located in the northwest of the oblast. It has an area of 776.3 km² and a population of around 27,500 inhabitants. The population density is 36 inhabitants per km².
