The Horyn Course

The Horyn ( Ukrainian Горинь ; Yiddish Horin) or Haryn ( Belarusian ) is a right tributary of the Prypjat / Prypjaz in the southwest of the Eastern European Plain . The river belonging to the river system of the Dnieper has a length of 659 km and drains a catchment area of 22,700 km². The Horyn reaches a maximum width of 80 m and a maximum depth of 16 m. The Slutsch is an important tributary . The Horyn rises in the Podolian Plate in the Ukrainian Oblast Ternopil (south of Kremenez and north of Ternopil ). In its course it flows on through the Ukrainian oblasts Khmelnyzkyj and Rivne and the Belarusian Breszkaja Woblasz , where it flows into the Pripyat. In the upper reaches it flows first on the Podolische Platte. From its source it flows to Isjaslav in a west-east direction. At the beginning of the middle reaches the Horyn forms an S-shaped course to the north (along the cities of Isjaslav, Slavuta and Ostroh ) and thus intersects the Wolhynische Platte . Near the town of Netizhyn is the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant , which uses the river's water as a coolant. From Ostroh it then flows north to Hoschtscha and flows west for the first time shortly before Kostopil . It then changes its direction of flow for the last time in the vicinity of Rivne . It flows northeast over the state border to Belarus. A swamp can be found in particular in the lowest river section, which flows through the partially drained Pripjet swamps . This area was regularly hit by floods earlier in the spring. The lower part of the river is also navigable by larger inland transport vessels.

Larger towns on the river are the cities of Isjaslav, Slavuta, Netischyn, Ostroh, Hoschtscha, Dubrowyzja and Stolin .
